Spanish Cherry Tomato
The cherry tomato is named after its similarity in size and shape with cherries. Fruits are small (can range from the size of the fingertip to a golf ball), juicy and round. These fruits have the unique combination of acidity, texture and sugars, so they are very appreciated in the kitchen. Usually eaten raw or roasted, whole or in small pieces, in salads, kebabs, skewers … Even as a side dish or together with pasta.
The main features, besides the size, are its juiciness, the thin skin and sweetness, almost as if it was candy. They have so much water that it is normal they leak when bitten, something that does not happen with other varieties. The very thin skin makes it easier to crush them, so they are preferred for some recipes.
Although the organoleptic differences, the beneficial effects on the body are the same as in the usual round tomatoes. As they mainly consist of water, they are very low in calories and have diuretic effects, so they are ideal for weight loss diets. Because of all the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants present, they are beneficial for cardiovascular health, slow cellular aging, helping the digestive system … And also have anticancer properties.
